Long service awards 2009

At Greater Manchester West's Annual meeting on Monday 8th June, several long service awards were handed out, from 5 years to a staggering 50 years. Two of the ladies who received the 50 years service award were Dorothy Gay from Salford and Freda Cantwell from the Eccles Division, pictured in the centre of our group. Also shown in our picture at the back are Adela Ramsbottom and Elaine Watts of Swinton who each received the 30 years service award, along with Liz Shuttleworth of Altrincham North with 10 years and Barbara Huddleston of Eccles Division with 30 years of service.

We wish to thank these ladies for all their hard work; Guiding would not be what it is today without them.

Long Service awards

Long Service AwardGirlguiding UK wishes to recognise everyone's contribution to guiding and in particular those who carry out specific roles. Any member, irrespective of role, gender or age, is eligible for a Long Service Award. Service will be counted from the date the individual becomes a member and actively carries out a role for 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 years (not necessarily consecutively).

The Long Service award brooches are all of similar design with different finishes and metals signifying the years. All the brooches are accompanied by a certificate. The 5 year certificate is signed by the County Commissioner, the 10 and 20 year certificates are signed by the Country or Region Chief Commissioner and the 30, 40 and 50 year certificates are signed by the Chief Guide.
