40 years of service for Lynda!

A surprise party was held on Saturday 6th September at Dunham Park Scout Campsite for Lynda Marsden, who has devoted 40 years of service to Guiding in Sale. She has been running 1st Sale Moor Ranger Guide Unit since 1972 and prior to that ran a Guide Company.

Various representatives from Guiding, Scouting and the annual Gang Show attended the party including some of her ex-Rangers. Some people even entered into the spirit of the reunion by wearing their old uniforms!

Lynda had been lured to the venue with a story about being required to assess Baden Powell badges and was astonished to see a 12’ banner across the lane at the campsite and the lane congratulating her 40 years service to Guiding. The lane was lined with people applauding and cheering her arrival. I have never seen Lynda speechless before and I was worried that she would put her car in reverse and go back down the lane! Fortunately, she stayed and a great day was had by all. The Rangers had planned a treasure hunt (which turned out to be a very muddy affair!), followed by silly team games on the field including an egg throwing contest. Photo albums were available for people to reminisce over. We managed to dodge the only heavy shower whilst having a BBQ and finished off the day with a campfire. Lynda was presented with a crystal vase and bird bath for her garden.

Lynda is definitely not retiring and we hope to celebrate another milestone when the Ranger Unit is 40 years old in 2012.
