Residential Experiences

Residential Experiences, where girls are given the opportunity to stay away from home for one or more nights with their friends, are available to all girls and young women in guiding, with each section having unique opportunities created specially for them.

Rainbow Sleepovers

Our youngest members can take part in overnight residential experiences which offer a fun and safe way for many girls to have their first experience of staying away from home with their friends.

Brownie Holidays

As well as being able to take part in sleepovers, Brownies are able to have longer residential adventures on Brownie Holidays. Brownie Holidays can take place all over the UK, giving girls the opportunity to explore both cities and the countryside in their own country.

Some Brownie units also offer the opportunity for girls to have their first taste of camping outdoors on Brownie camps.

Brownies can also experience international adventures in Europe, with EuroDisney being a popular choice!

Guide Camps and Holidays

In addition to taking part in sleepovers and indoor holidays, Guides also have the opportunity to camp for longer periods of time, giving them the chance to experience more adventurous activities like archery, climbing, orienteering, bivouacking, trekking and many more.

Many of the County's Guide units have their own lightweight camping equipment, enabling them to visit campsites in beautiful locations around the County, the Region and the UK.

Guides can also take part in international adventures, from overseas camps and jamborees in Europe, to more challenging trips in countries like Morocco, Australia and Thailand, where girls are able to experience new cultures and expand their horizons.

Senior Section Residential Experiences

Senior Section can not only experience adventures provided by the County and Girlguiding UK, but they also have the opportunity to work towards qualifications that allow them to plan their own adventures with their peers. The Senior Section Camp Permit allows groups of young women to arrange and participate in residential experiences independently, teaching valuable skills for the future and providing a unique way of achieving the goals of awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Senior Section members have a wide range of international opportunities available to them, including more challenging community development projects in countries like Bangladesh, Honduras, Chile and South Africa.

'working on a project to look at recruitment, empowerment, self esteem and leadership for Guides and Scouts in Chile was such a fantastic opportunity. I'd encourage travelling abroad with guiding to anyone, it's certainly been the experience of a lifetime for me.' Lynne Woolley, Salford Division
