Helicopter Rescue

Young women from Sale Moor Rangers put their First Aid skills into practice when they came across an injured walker near Lyme Park.

The young women, all members of Girlguiding North West England, encountered the female casualty lying across the path with injuries to her leg. The Rangers, from Sale used their guiding initiative to create a splint from a foam mat and bandaged it to her injured leg whilst keeping her comfortable. After alerting the Lyme Park authorities, three of the young Rangers ran back through the Lyme Park woods to direct the Land Rover with a First Aider on board.

During the wait, the Rangers upheld their guiding promise by keeping the lady calm and relaxed, and entertaining her two young daughters

The emergency services sent an air ambulance to assist with the casualty. After landing on the rough terrain the Rangers impressed the paramedics with both their fantastic first aid and assistance in carrying the injured party on a stretcher to the waiting helicopter.

Judith Stewart, Leader of 1st Sale Moor Rangers said “I am extremely proud of the girls' quick thinking, calm attitude and use of their initiative throughout this ordeal. No one would expect to encounter this situation whilst on a walk and I'm just pleased we were able to help the injured walker during their time in need”.
