9th Eccles Brownies at Buckingham Palace

A 'Royal' day out for 9th Eccles Brownies

To mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign, the Diamond Jubilee will take place in June 2012. Throughout the year so far Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have all been doing their bit to celebrate this momentous occasion. Alison Forshaw from the 9th Eccles Brownies certainly had something special in mind when she took her Brownies and Guides on the 7.15am train down to London on Saturday 21st April, as part of the Jubilee Badge and Celebration. She tells us what everyone got up to on the day:

Well what can I say… I really don't know where to start!!! We had an AMAZING day!

There were sixteen Brownies, three Guides, one young leader and 6 adults. Everything went to plan, the weather was great, we had our lunch in St James Park and saw all the horses for the Queen's birthday gun salute! We also called in at the ICANDO centre. (For those of you who don’t know, this is one of Girlguiding UK’s excellent activity centres. It is situated in the heart of London and offers overnight accommodation in a giant tent for groups of girls of all ages) Here the girl's spent their £5 spending money, and we were made to feel very welcome!.

We then went on a walk down the Mall, heading towards the Embankment, and saw lots of sights along the way, such as Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the River Thames..... We finished off the day by catching a bus to Russell Square gardens to have Pizza Hut before getting our train home!

In recognition of everything that Alison and her team does for 9th Eccles Brownies, the Parents would like to say a few words of thanks:

The parents and carers of all the children at 9th Eccles Brownies, would like voice our appreciation and heartfelt thanks for the hard work, commitment, time and enthusiasm that Brown Owl; Alison Forshaw, bestows to the Brownies (not forgetting Little, Snowy and Wood Owls too!)  The opportunities and array of activities that Alison initiates and plans to precision, such as a recent day trip to London, should be acknowledged just to let her know that all her dedication and drive to create as much happiness for every individual, is very much appreciated.  We know that our Brownies are very lucky to have such an inspirational, organised and warm leader.

"Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children."  ~ Charles R. Swindoll

In light of this quote, a sincere thank you from us all, for depositing such happy memories in our children at Brownies...here’s to many more; safe in the knowledge that the parents/carers are very grateful to the devoted ‘Owls’ at 9th Eccles Brownies.
