“Mersey Mix” Adventure for BP Challenge followed by Presentation

On a cold November morning thirteen Guides arrived at Piccadilly Station to board a train to Liverpool. Nicky Little and Sarah Turner-Wilson give us an insight into the BP Challenge Adventure.

The girls were given directions and after a few misleading smart phones we eventually arrived at Liverpool Youth Hostel.

From there the girls’ challenge was to provide a guide to free fun activities around Liverpool City Centre. After a quick dash into the Maritime Museum to avoid a downpour, we arranged our tour on the Duck Boats. We sprinted to the dock for the tour and had a great tour of Liverpool with fun facts. Following the tour we had some delicious warming hot chocolates and chuppa cup lolly cupcakes.

That evening the girls chose to go and watch Madagascar 3 in 3D. I don’t know who laughed more, the leaders or the girls, though we were definitely the nosiest group in the cinema!

The following morning we decided to go to the World Museum which everyone loved before grabbing lunch and heading back to Manchester, tired and happy. The weekend’s itinery didn’t quite go to plan, although Girl Led Guiding definitely worked in our favour.

On December 3rd, the Guides in the County who had completed their BP Challenge over the last 18 months were invited to a Presentation Evening, this year in Stretford. It was a great turn out of girls, leaders, commissioners and parents who have supported the Guides in achieving the challenge. It was a lovely night to recognise the hard work the Guides have put into their challenges, and it was also a great opportunity for the Guides to catch up with other Guides who they had met on their adventures.

This year we invited Kate Green, MP for Stretford and Urmston, to join us. Unfortunately she was in London although she personally wrote to each Guide to congratulate them, and the letters were well received. If you are interested in helping out on an Adventure (it doesn’t matter which section you are a leader with) or have a great idea for one of our future County Adventures, please contact Nicky on 0161 864 3411 or
