3rd Altrincham Guides celebrate their achievements

Recently, Jenny Barton who is District Commissioner for Altrincham District was invited to a presentation evening where Guide Unit Leader Carol Sills and her team were celebrating achievements of the past year and welcoming in some new recruits. She tells us all about the event…

The unit is always full and once the girls get to 14 they just don't want to leave! Many of the girls go on to become Young Leaders with the unit or the Rainbow or Brownie units that also meet at the same church and eventually feed the Guide Unit.

Twelve girls in total, from the unit, have gained their Baden Powell award and the latest three girls Katie, Hannah and Megan were presented with their awards on the evening: Many congratulations to them for all their hard work!

The unit as a whole had been working on the "Together We Can Fundraise" badge and as a part of this they had planned and run a Summer Fair event in June. At the event they had raised £343. A cheque for this grand total was presented to Mr Jason Baker from OXFAM who congratulated the girls and presented them with individual certificates and badges.

As part of the event several girls and two young leaders made their promise. It was the last time that the "old promise" will be used, as a revised promise declaration is due to be used from September.

The unit is also holding a camp at Ashley in August which, for many of the girls, will be their first experience of Guide camp.

This is just one example of the great work that goes on in many units and the leaders and girls all deserve our congratulations - very well done!
