Big Brownie Birthday Exhibition

Girls and women from Salford and Manchester have organised an extra-special exhibition to help mark the Big Brownie Birthday – 100 years of Brownies! The exhibition, which will be displayed at Salford Museum & Art Gallery, has taken months to prepare and local Brownie groups will officially open the exhibition to the public this Saturday.

Joining the groups for the festivities will be 105-year-old Betty Lowe, one of Girlguiding Greater Manchester West’s longest standing members. Betty will be accompanied by one of the youngest local Brownies, as well as other Brownie groups and the Mayor of Salford.

Running from 15 February - 17 April, the exhibition will guide visitors through the decades, showcasing the transformation of the Rosebuds of 1914 to the modern Brownies of the twenty-first century. Placed in the popular Blue Stairs Community Gallery, the exhibition has been put together by Brownie groups with the help of the local archivist and volunteers.

There is still time to come along and experience Brownie related activities that will be available in between 2pm and 4pm until Thursday (20 Feb). £1 per head - no booking required. Brownies in uniform will receive a free gift!
