Ashley Update 2015

Thanks to a successful bid for an Awards For All national lottery grant last summer; the generosity of a local donor and a £3,000 grant from Manchester Airport, work will be taking place on the field at Ashley in the next couple of months. The end result will see the installation of a small number of pieces of outdoor gym equipment suitable for Guides, Senior Section and adult use, as well as a three-sided wooden structure to provide dry shelter for camps and outdoor events.

At the start of the year the holding tank for waste water and sewage from the Lodge was replaced. The ground is still settling but The Lodge is now back in use and can be booked for evenings, days and overnight. It is ideal for Rainbow, Brownie and Guide sleepovers.

Whilst the field would inevitably be undergoing upheaval this year, the Ashley Management Committee decided to install land drainage to try and improve the usability of the land, which can become very waterlogged. This work has now been carried out and although it will take a year or so to assess the benefits all agree it is an improvement; further drainage pipes may have to be added later.

We hope everyone will soon be able to enjoy and appreciate our latest improvements. The next improvements planned is a refit of the girls’ bathroom in The House.
