Sale Trefoil Guild Bonfire Get-together

Lynda Marsden, Chairperson of Sale Trefoil Guild, opened her garden for an evening of bonfire fun and fireworks in the rain!

“Although the weather had been nice all day, just before 7pm it started to drizzle. However, all of our members (being leaders and retired leaders) came well prepared in coats, waterproofs, boots, wellies & carrying umbrellas. The over 80s were offered shelter in the house, but to our surprise, no one took me up on the offer and a pleasant evening was had outside in the garden.

"We started with lighting the fire in my incinerator and drinking mulled wine to warm up, followed by hot pot, trifle, apple strudel, cakes and of course, marshmallows done over the fire & put between two chocolate biscuits (the American & Canadian way).

"When the fire had died down, we enjoyed some fireworks and ended with sparklers and singing ‘this little guiding light of mine’.”

Jean, a member from the Trefoil, said “Lovely evening and we all had fun, despite the rain. Singing in the rain took on a whole new perspective! We enjoyed a lovely hotpot - just right for the night.”

Lynda, Chairperson, said “It was lovely to see all the laughing faces in the light from the fire – just like the days when we camped.”
