St. George's Day
Girlguiding Sale Division held a fantastic new event to celebrate St George’s Day 2017.
On Sunday 23rd April, Brownies, Rainbows and Guides came together for the first time in over 20 years.
The celebrations started with a short parade around Worthington Park accompanied by Eccles Brass Band. The procession began at 1:00pm and gave the children and adult members an opportunity to show the vast numbers involved with Girlguiding in Sale.
Laura Keller, Division Commissioner for Sale said:
“This is the first time in over 20 years that we have come together in such a way – it’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate St George’s Day, but also a chance to join the community and put Girlguiding on the Sale map!”
The parade was a huge success, with many parents and members of the public watching throughout. The event was attended by Girlguiding GMW’s County Commissioner, Ann Healey, President Sheila Clarke and Mayor of Trafford Judith Lloyd.
It closed with the renewal of the Girl Guide Promise followed by Eccles Brass Band performing on the old band stand. A much missed sight in Sale!
After the parade, all visitors were invited to join to a family fun day until 4:00pm which consisted of a variety of stalls and activities for all ages.
Children were welcomed to take part in archery sessions provided by Adventure Out, Fun Fair rides, toy sales and craft activities provided by the Guiding leaders themselves.
Karen Ackerley, Brooklands District Commissioner, commented:
"Fantastic Turnout! The parade has been brilliant"
Many families and volunteers joined together, picnicking on the lawn and enjoying a prosecco supplied by Fancy Flutes caterers.
Music was provided throughout the afternoon by DJ James, who kept the younger members dancing throughout!
The feedback from the event has been fantastic with many members of the public commenting.
