IntOps Weekend

Ten girls aged 14-18 from around the County have enjoyed an unforgettable 24hrs at Seven Springs Outdoor Activity Centre in Disley, Manchester with Manchester County (who also had ten girls) to learn about the International Opportunities (IntOps) available in the County.

Once there, the girls were given a raw egg to turn into their 'egg friend' - the challenge was to keep their egg from breaking and look after it throughout the duration of the weekend and be able to produce the egg when prompted! This proved to be very challenging for some - we were very pleased that the egg lived in a zip lock bag!

The girls were then split into random groups and took part in a wide game which involved challenging tasks and activities about the five World Centres; including building a free standing structure, make a foot logo out of natural items, have a trip on the London Underground, a pinata challenge and an Indian Elephant craft.

The afternoon brought a presentation by the leaders about their own international experiences, an open conversation about fundraising and an opportunity for the girls to ask questions.

The girls then cooked their own Chicken Fajitas on an open fire and had 'chill out' time to get to know each and make flag bead broaches other before going to bed.

Becky Patten, the County International Adviser, said: "International opportunities within Girlguiding are a great chance for both leaders and our girls and young women to develop personally. I have experienced this myself both as a participant and first hand leading trips, so it was great to be able to run an event that has shown the girls the opportunities available to them! For some, this will be the first time that they will own a passport and leave the UK; and what a great way to do it!"

From the weekend, four girls from our County will now go onto the North West Region Selection weekend in July and six girls have accepted a place on the County Adventure to The Baltic Region in Summer 2018.

If you would like more information about International Opportunities as a leader or a participant, please visit the International page on the website or contact Becky Patten.
