BP Adventure - Liverpool, May 2018

This was the first Baden Powell challenge adventure I have organised as BP co-ordinator for Greater Manchester West. It was very different to running my usual Guide or Brownie getaways as the purpose of a BP Adventure is to enable the Guides to celebrate completing their BP award and their time in Guiding as well as to discover where their guiding journey can go next. The most challenging parts as co-ordinator were not knowing most of the girls; not knowing what to expect, who might need extra support, wondering if they would all get on, and hoping they would have fun.

We had an evening of getting to know each other on the Friday. Saturday was spent in Liverpool taking in the sights, museums and shopping. On Sunday we did adventurous activities at Bispham Scout Camp and tried things that they might do if they move into Senior Section. The weather was glorious and we had one of the first dry strikes I have ever had on a Guide camp!

One of my favourite moments of the camp was coming back from the bathroom in my PJ’s at 11pm, tired from a full day in Liverpool walking 25000 steps, finding the girls lying in the field stargazing!

After weeks of stressful preparation and worry the weekend itself proved to be fantastic! All the Guides were an absolute credit to their units, they got stuck into everything and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I, and the girls, returned home knowing that we had all done, and achieved, our personal best.
