QAVS event at Gorton Monastery

Pat Mayle, Ros Scott, Sheila Williamson, Chris Mazeika-Rimmer and Christine Tyler were invited to represent GMW at an event in February, hosted by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, and held at Gorton Monastery.

Recognising the important role that Girlguiding plays as a voluntary organisation within Greater Manchester, the group had been invited along with representatives from other local voluntary groups, to hear from the Lord Lieutenant, his Deputy and representatives from the Secretariats of National Honours and The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, about nominating people for various honours and awards.

The session was interesting and informative, as well as an excellent networking opportunity as there were a number of voluntary groups, local council staff and officials at the event.

A presentation listing all the winning groups from last year was shown, including GMW (see photos).

The message from the session was "if you think someone is deserving of national recognition in their volunteer role, nominate them"!

GMW has an Awards Committee, and is happy to receive the names of people within Girlguiding who you feel deserved recognition for various awards. The team will support you in putting together a nomination, along with help from the Lord Leiutenant's office. Please contact Pat Mayle c/o gmwsec@gmail.com for more information.
